11th FIAF Programming Winter School

9-10 March 2026, Paris

Presentation of the course

In March 2026, FIAF will join forces with the Cinémathèque française and the Fondation Jérôme Seydoux-Pathé once again to offer a short training course (in English and French) aimed at professionals in FIAF archives and beyond. The general theme of this specialized course is still "Programming Film Heritage", and will once again be taught by programming experts from the global network of FIAF archives and other distinguished professionals in a relevant field. This 11th edition of the Winter School will take place on-site only, at the Fondation Jérôme Seydoux-Pathé and at the Cinémathèque, on 9 and 10 March 2026, just before the Cinémathèque française Festival.


Speakers & Programme

The classes (a mixture of lectures, workshops and round-table discussions) will be taught by programming experts from the global network of FIAF archives, and other distinguished professionals in a relevant field. Note that presentations will be delivered in English or French, with simultaneous translation available throughout the course. The different sessions of the 2026 FIAF Programming Winter School will be on the following topics:

  • Programming Film Heritage from and in Maghreb and the Arab World / Programmation du patrimoine cinématographique du Maghreb et du monde arabe, and au Maghreb et dans le monde arabe.
  • Film Magazines: A Springboard for Film Heritage Programming? / Les revues de cinéma, tremplin pour la programmation du patrimoine cinématographique ? 
  • Programming 70mm films / Programmer le cinéma en 70 mm.
  • Archival Films in New Film Creations: Another Way of Programming and Promoting This Heritage? / Les films d’archive dans des nouvelles créations cinématographiques : Une autre manière de programmer et valoriser ce patrimoine ?
  • New Initiatives in Film Education / Education à l'image: nouvelles initiatives.
  • Portrait of a Programmer: Brian Meacham (Yale Film Archive) / Portrait de programmateur: Brian Meacham (Yale Film Archive).
  • PACC session: Research and Negotiation of Rights for Programming Purposes: French and Anglo-Saxon Practices  / Session PACC : Recherche et négociation de droits en vue de programmation, les cas français et anglo-saxon en pratique. 
  • The FIAF Programming Game / Le jeu de programmation de la FIAF.


Registration & Fee

Registration for the 2026 FIAF Winter School are now closed, as the course is fully booked.

The registration fee will be 150€ for employees of FIAF-affiliated institutions and full-time students (student ID will be required), and 190€ for all others. Registrations will be accepted on a first-come-first-served basis, but a number of places will be reserved for employees of FIAF archives. Note that the course fee includes:

  • Lunch on both days of the Winter School, and refreshments throughout the training,
  • Free tickets to attend many of the screenings of the Cinémathèque française festival (subject to availability). More details will be available nearer the time of the festival.

Participants are expected to make their own travel and accommodation arrangements.
