Vittorio Boarini (1935-2021)

It is with great sadness that we inform you of the passing of Vittorio Biarini, founder and former director of the Cineteca di Bologna, on 30 October 2021, a few days short of his 86th birthday. Thanks to his efforts, the Cineteca di Bologna (then called “Cineteca del Comune di Bologna”) joined FIAF in 1989, first as an Observer, and two years later as a Member. He hosted the 1994 FIAF Congress in Bologna, and joined the FIAF Executive Committee in 1997. He retired from the Cineteca in 2000 and took over as Director of the Fondazione Federico Fellini (Rimini), which joined FIAF as an Associate in 2003 (it would leave the Federation in 2011). It was in that new capacity that he joined the FIAF Executive Committee for another term, from 2005 to 2009.
A tribute to Vittorio Borarini by Gian Luca Farinelli was published in No. 105 of the Journal of Film Preservation.
