A Season of Classic Films: Four more new restorations from the Balkans
11-16 June: Мирно лето [Mirno Leto] (A Quiet Summer) | Yugoslavia, Dimitrie Osmanli, 1961, 99′
The film comedy tells the story of Mira and Zare, a young couple yearning for their peaceful summer vacation by the Ohrid lake. This is the premiere of a new 2K restoration to celebrate the film’s 60th anniversary. The event includes an introduction by Atanas Chuposki, Senior Filmologist, as well as a mini concert!
16-21 June: Фросина [Frosina] | Yugoslavia, Voislav Nanovic, 1952, 79′
This is also a new restoration premiere. The film recounts the life of Frosina, who faces the fear of losing her only surviving child in the fight for freedom. The archetypal story of the mother devoting her life to raising children and taking care for her spouse and family interrogates the role of woman as a hero or a martyr for denying herself and her needs.
These two new restorations and special free-admission screening events are organised by the Cinematheque of North Macedonia.

17 June: Summer Daydream: A Selection of Vintage Bulgarian Short Films | Bulgaria, 1926 – 1940, 50′
The Bulgarian National Film Archive (BNFA) joins the second edition of A Season of Classic Films with a compilation of early Bulgarian films (1926-1940), which present life in Bulgaria during the interwar period with a pinch of humour. The programme will be screened on Thursday 17 June at 19:00 EEST (Sofia time) / 18:00 (Paris time) at the film archive’s Odeon movie theatre and the event will be simultaneously streamed via BNFA’s YouTube channel. The live musical accompaniment will be provided by violinist Boyana Zhelyazkova and pianist Yasen Obretenov. After the live stream event, the film compilation programme will remain available until the end of June.

19 - 20 June: One Song a Day Takes Mischief Away / Tko pjeva zlo ne misli | Yugoslavia, Krešo Golik, 1970, 93'
On the occasion of the 50th anniversary of one of the most popular musical comedies in Croatia, the Croatian state archive – Croatian cinematheque will release the newly-digitised film One Song a Day Takes Mischief Away / Tko pjeva zlo ne misli and it will be free-to-view online between 19 and 20 June.
