3rd Programming Winter School, March 2018

4th FIAF/Cinémathèque française
Programming Winter School

11-12 March 2019, Cinémathèque française, Paris

Registrations are now open. The registration form can be downloaded HERE.

The full programme is available HERE in English, and HERE in French.

Presentation of the course

For the fourth year in a row, FIAF and the Cinémathèque française are joining forces to offer a short training course aimed primarily at professionals in FIAF archives and beyond. The theme of this specialized course is “Programming Film Heritage”, and will once again be taught by experienced professionals from our sector, most of them programmers in film archives affiliated to FIAF. The course will take place at the Cinémathèque française on Monday 11 and Tuesday 12 March 2019 (two full days), just before the start of "Toute la mémoire du monde", the International Festival of Restored Film hosted by the Cinémathèque française (13-17 March 2019).

Following the success of the first three Winter Schools, the organizers thought that there was still a lot to discuss and learn about the topic of programming film heritage, and that a fourth course could introduce topics not or little covered before, as well as explore further those already covered in the last three years. Topics this year will include historical perspectives on programming film heritage; funding issues; programming contemporary cinema in a film heritage context; recreating the pre-cinema/early cinema screening experience; and our usual strand of “portraits of experienced programmers”. We will give the students the opportunity to exchange with one another and with the trainers. We believe that this new course can be of interest both to students who already attended past Winter Schools, and to new ones.

Lecturers

The classes will be taught by programming experts from (mainly) the global network of FIAF archives. The full programme of the two days will be communicated as soon as it is finalized in both French and English. Check our website for the list of confirmed lecturers.

Fee

The registration fee will be 140€ (169.40€ inc. VAT) per person for employees of FIAF-affiliated institutions and registered students, and 180€ (217.80€ inc. VAT) for all others. Registrations will be accepted on a first-come-first-served basis, but a number of places will be reserved for employees of FIAF archives. Note that this fee includes:

  • Lunch on both days of the Winter School, and refreshments throughout the training,
  • Free access to festival screenings and events (except a few special screenings) on the premises of the Cinémathèque française from 13-17 March 2019 (subject to availability).

Participants are expected to make their own travel and accommodation arrangements. You can find a list of hotels and restaurants near the Cinémathèque française HERE.
