Impuls: Cultivating a Film Ecology between the Generations
Brigitta Wagner is a German-American film historian, film educator, and filmmaker, and Director of Studies at the German Film and Television Academy Berlin (DFFB). Her work explores the relationship between memory, audiovisual media, people, and places. From 2017 to 2024, she was Director of Film Education at Berlin’s WOLF KINO, where she developed intercultural film education projects for young people. Drawing on her experience across festivals, archives, cinemas, and educational institutions, including collaborations with DFF and the Deutsche Filmakademie, she connects film culture with young people’s viewing and filmmaking practices.

Founded in Berlin in 1957, Andec Filmtechnik GmbH is Europe’s last remaining true full-service film laboratory. The company combines long-standing expertise in photochemical film processes with advanced capabilities in film technology, preservation, restoration, digitization, and high-end media production.
Andec offers all existing photochemical motion picture processes and handles digitization and restoration at the highest technical level. Its preservation and restoration work is based on proven workflows, complemented by expertise from commercial production and the development of new methods, including treatments for mould-affected film and techniques for tinting and toning prints. The company is equipped to handle complex materials and demanding projects.

A Place to Discover – Children in the Filmarchive
With the project LIVING ARCHIVE FOR CHILDREN, film educator Stefanie Schlüter opened the Arsenal Filminstitut’s film archive to around 200 primary school children. They were able to encounter film in its physical forms: as a print in a can, in the projector, at the editing table, and as a projection in the cinema.
Today, for the first time, the film archive and the cinema are housed together at the Silent Green Kulturquartier in Berlin-Wedding. Taking place on site, the workshop explores the possibilities this spatial proximity offers for film education and considers how children can become active participants in the archive themselves.
Stefanie Schlüter is a freelance film educator and film scholar based in Zurich and Berlin. Her work spans cinemas, film archives, festivals, schools and universities, with a focus on experimental, documentary and short forms. She is a member of the selection committee for the Children’s and Youth Film Competition at the International Short Film Festival Oberhausen and co-developed the “Sinema Plural” fellowship programme at Sinema Transtopia. From 2022 to 2025, she taught Film Studies at the University of Zurich. She has collaborated with Arsenal Filminstitut since 2007 on film education and archival projects.

Black Perspectives: Taking PLACE in the German Archive
This workshop facilitates hands-on exploration of intersectional film research, archival practice and repair through programming and restoration. Participants will be introduced to the PLACE project which aims to reconnect African and diaspora filmmakers who studied at the DFFB with the Kinemathek archive. Participants will explore how archival practice can help uncover overlooked histories, reconnect filmmakers with their work, and open up new perspectives on film heritage.
Karina Griffith is Guest Professor of Intersectional Visual and Media Theory at the Berlin University of the Arts (UdK). Her research, "Flânoirie: The Moving Images of Black German Cinemas" (University of Toronto) was awarded the 2026 German Studies Canada Prize for the Best PhD Dissertation. In 2021 she joined the curatorial team of the Berlinale Forum Expanded and has curated film and interdisciplinary programmes for the Goethe-Institut, Ballhaus Naunynstrasse, Oberhausen Film Festival, DFFB, VTape and many others.

Björn Schmitt / Florian Höhensteiger | Location: Sinema Transtopia
Revisited: Practices of artistic intervention and film education
How do patterns of power travel through film history and film archives? How might these patterns be disrupted? Drawing on examples from the collaboration between SİNEMA TRANSTOPIA and DFF as part of the project THE PAST IS NOT ANOTHER COUNTRY: DOING ARCHIVES DIFFERENTLY, this workshop focuses on practices for working with archives, such as artistic interventions and projects of film education. As a starting point, there will be a presentation of Nnenna Onuoha's essay film Entwicklungsland — Revisited (2025), which draws on a film archived at SİNEMA TRANSTOPIA. In addition to discussing issues related to archival curating and the critical recontextualization of collections through interventions, the session will focus specifically on exploring new practices and ideas using SİNEMA’s film collection.
Florian Höhensteiger works as a film archivist at the Bundesarchiv by day and as a film projectionist at SİNEMA TRANSTOPIA by night. As a projectionist, he has screened nitrate films at the Nitrate Picture Show at the George Eastman Museum in Rochester (USA) and taught the art of film projection in collaboration with the Film Heritage Foundation and the Goethe-Institut in Mumbai, India. In Berlin, he has screened films at five different theatres and also curates programmes for Cinegraph Babelsberg e.V.
Björn Schmitt is a programmer and researcher at DFF – Deutsches Filminstitut & Filmmuseum (Frankfurt) with a focus on archival work and the materiality of film. In addition to his work as a programmer, he is also part of the cinema‘s projectionist staff, and is thus directly involved in the institution's various film education projects and hands-on workshops. His research focuses primarily on marginalized filmographies and the cinematic representation of the history of migration in Germany.
