Scan2Screen introduces a radically different approach to the digitization of historical color films and photographs. Our comprehensive workflow integrates a state-of-the-art multispectral scanner and advanced visual rendering software for image processing, developed through more than a decade of scientific research into film digitization and historical film colors. This work, led by Barbara Flueckiger — founder of the Timeline of Historical Colors in Photography and Film — and the interdisciplinary Scan2Screen team, is supported by extensive scientific research and publications.

Unlike conventional methods, our visual rendering software automatically reconstructs colors based on the spectral characteristics of historical cinema projectors. This minimizes the need for time-consuming color grading while reducing subjective interventions, ensuring the most historically accurate digital reproductions possible.

Scan2Screen’s modular system is built for longevity, adapting to evolving technological innovations and standards while preserving the integrity of irreplaceable archival materials.

With headquarters in Zurich, Switzerland (Scan2Screen Switzerland GmbH), and Palo Alto, California,USA (Scan2Screen US LLC) we are well-positioned to support film archives and institutions worldwide, safeguarding cinematic heritage for future generations.
