Technical Commission

The Technical Commission is the FIAF's international professional board covering all technical aspects of film preservation and comprises individuals that combine practical experience in the field with scientific knowledge.

The FIAF Technical Commission's role is to support moving image and sound archivist's understanding of film preservation methods and technology by making available information, or initiating and coordinating the necessary research. An additional role will be to share technical information other similar institutions such as FIAT, IASA, and AMIA etc.

The Commission additional aim is to define the principles and the working practices in order to help the archives plan ahead in face of the constant technological change.

The FIAF Technical Commission has a very simple structure: a Head of the Commission, a Deputy Head of the Commission and the Commission members.

The FIAF Technical Commission will be working in these projects in the next two years:

1. The Manual of Film Preservation.
2. Visual identification of deterioration on films (posters and booklet)
3. Archive technical building data base.
4. FIAF target film (shrunken film to test printers, scanners and projectors).


The Technical Commission members represent the main area of specialities involved in image and sound preservation and scientists on the fields of material and conservation sciences.
