Treasures from the Film Archives

The database Treasures from the Film Archives contains unique information about silent-era film holdings in international film archives. It was conceived as a tool to aid the work of preservation, research and film exchange between archives, and provides filmographic and holdings information on over 60,000 works. Included are silent shorts and features, fiction and non-fiction, from 110 of the world's major film archives. Between 2001 – 2012, the database was updated through the generous financial support of several organizations: Saving the Silents, a collaborative project organized by the National Film Preservation Foundation and supported through Save America's Treasures, a partnership of the National Endowment for the Arts and the National Park Service, U.S. Department of the Interior; the Louis B. Mayer Foundation; the Haghefilm Foundation; and the Cinemateca Brasileira. FIAF is truly grateful to these foundations and organizations for their invaluable support.

Users must be aware that the inclusion of a title in this database does not indicate whether the material is complete, nor does it guarantee access to that material. Access regulations may differ from archive to archive according to their individual and national policies and restrictions, and researchers must query individual archives regarding access. Contact information for FIAF archives can be found in the FIAF Directory.

The Treasures from the Film Archives database is available by online subscription as part of the FIAF Databases. Note that logged-in members of the FIAF community can now access the Treasures from the Film Archives database HERE.
