1. The Advanced Projection Manual.
The Advanced Projection Manual, written by Torkell Saetervadet, was published by the Norwegian Film Institute with FIAF in the FIAF Congress in São Paulo in 2006. It is a professional guide for projectionists and cinema engineers in the projection of classic films with modern equipment. It is an indispensable manual to the good presentation of cinema formats from the silent era to the digital age. Besides the most usual formats, it covers special widescreen ratios, sound formats, 70mm, 3-D, narrow gauges, video, and D-Cinema. http://www.nfi.no/projection/

2. The FIAF Declaration on Fair Use and Access.
The FIAF Declaration on Fair Use and Access, edited by Patrick Loughney, was passed unanimously in the FIAF 2008 Paris Congess. For the first time, MPAA was present in a FIAF Congress, in its symposium "Pandora's Box: Film Archives and the Question of Rights". We seem close to mutual understanding, and high level information meetings are due with the CCAAA (Co-ordinating Council of Audiovisual Archives Associations) and the WIPO (World Intellectual Property Organization). The Declaration is published on the FIAF website ("Membership Information" section).

3. Cinematheques in Search of Their Audiences.
The Symposium topic in 2009 in the FIAF Congress in Buenos Aires will be "cinematheques in search of their audiences", under the leadership of Marcela Cassinelli.

4. How to Present Films in the Digital Era.
A planned workshop topic in 2010 in the FIAF Congress in Oslo is "how to present films in the digital era", organized by the FIAF Technical Commission, with PACC participation.

5. The FIAF Electronic Subtitling Network.
The FIAF electronic subtitling network is highly useful in the exchange of original-language scripts, translations and actual electronic subtitles in many languages. The importance of our cumulative work grows tremendously with the advent of D-Cinema. There are 25 members in the network, and everybody is welcome to join. Please contact: antti.alanen@kava.fi
