FPRWI 2017 is a seven-day training programme which will take place in Chennai from 7 to 14 October 2017. The third of its kind, it is an initiative of Film Heritage Foundation and FIAF, in association with The Film Foundation’s World Cinema Project, L’Immagine Ritrovata, The Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences, Prasad Corp., La Cinémathèque française, Imperial War Museums, Fondazione Cineteca di Bologna and Kodak.


The intensive workshop that will take place at the historic Prasad Film Laboratories in Chennai will cover both theory and practical classes in the best practices of the preservation and restoration of both filmic and non-filmic material and daily screenings of restored classics from around the world. For the first time, the course will also include practical sessions on film scanning. The course will be certified by FIAF.


The goal of the programme is to take our campaign to save India’s cinematic heritage to the South Indian film industry that has an incredible film history besides contributing to over 60% of India’s film production output currently.


Application Opens on 15 July 2017. The course will be open to applicants from India, Sri Lanka, Nepal, Bhutan and Bangladesh. Course fee: INR 25,000/- plus applicable taxes. Scholarships available for deserving candidates.

What is FRAME ?


• A training course on audiovisual archives management, organized by Ina and Sound and vision, in the framework of the Creative Europe program, in partnership with FIATIFTA and Eurovision.
• An itinerant approach aiming, every year, at opening to participants the doors of different European institutions dealing with audiovisual heritage preservation and promotion.
• Two sessions of one week each, addressing different issues.

The aim of this School is to foster a shared knowledge in the field for current and future generations and film archives worldwide. Selected participants will experience hands-on the work of actual restoration professionals. They will also meet restoration experts from all over the world, as well as L'Immagine Ritrovata and Cineteca di Bologna staff.


The FIAF Film Restoration Summer School is aimed at specialists, film archive staff and students. During the participant selection process, priority will be given to those working in FIAF and ACE member institutions.
