CCAAA

FIAF is a member of the Co-ordinating Council of Audiovisual Archives Associations (CCAAA). The CCAAA is a network of eight international non-governmental organizations dealing with all aspects of audiovisual archiving on a professional level, speaking with a common voice with the aim of promoting and encouraging 1) the recognition of the audiovisual heritage as part of the world’s cultural and documentary heritage, and 2) the preservation and the accessibility of the audiovisual heritage on an international level.

The CCAAA was created in 1999 as a spin-off from the “Roundtable of Audiovisual Records”, an informal discussion forum founded in 1982 by FIAF, the Federation of Library Associations and Institutions (IFLA), the International Association of Sound Archives (IASA), the International Council on Archives (ICA), and the International Federation of Television Archives (FIAT/IFTA), following UNESCO's landmark “Recommendation for the Safeguarding and Preservation of Moving Images” (1980), which FIAF played a key role in drafting. One of the Roundtable’s most notable achievements was the establishment of the Joint Technical Symposium. In the 2000s, it was joined by the Association of Moving Image Archivists (AMIA), the Southeast Asia-Pacific Audiovisual Archive Association (SEAPAVAA), and FOCAL International. In 2012, new Terms of Reference were introduced. Each 27 October since 2007, the CCAAA has been organizing the annual World Day for Audiovisual Heritage, under the auspices of UNESCO.
