The 2011 FIAF Award was presented to veteran Japanese actress Kyoko Kagawa in Tokyo on the 24th of October 2011 by FIAF Secretary General Meg Labrum and FIAF Vice President Hisashi Okajima at a ceremony preceding the screening of A Story From Chikamitsu (Mizoguchi,1954).

The FIAF Executive Committee encourages the FIAF affiliates to celebrate the World Day for Audiovisual Heritage every year on 27th October, day of the adoption of the UNESCO Recommendation for Safeguarding and Preservation of Moving Image adopted on 27th October 1980, in Belgrade.

The 2011 autumn session of the FIAF Executive Committee (EC) took place on 3-4 October 2011 in Pordenone (Italy) during the 30th Giornate del Cinema Muto. Original notes were taken by Sylvia Frank; the present report, based on these notes and the audio recordings, was written by Christophe Dupin.

FIAF is pleased to announce the appointment of Christophe Dupin to the position of Senior Administrator of the FIAF Secretariat in Brussels, a position held by Christian Dimitriu for the last 16 years. His first day in the office will be Monday 18th July.

To replace Gabrielle Claes, who has directed the Belgian Royal Film Archive for over 20 years, the Board of Directors of the Foundation has appointed Wouter HESSEL as Director of the institution and Nicola MAZZANTI as Assistant Director.

We have received the sad news of the passing of Thomasz Jorge Farkas, occured last Friday 25 March at the age of 86 years in Sao Paulo.

It is with great sorrow that the Staff Members of the Slovenian Cinematheque has received today the sad news of the passing away of Director Silvan Furlan at the age of 51.

On April 19th Gianni Comencini died in Milan. He was 84 years old, years dedicated to the love of cinema. He was the president of the Fondazione Cineteca Italiana, of which he was the founding father in 1947.
